The Beaches & National Park
Lido Rotondella is a beautiful sandy beach, and is an unhurried 25 minute drive.
Beach bars are open from the beginning of June (where umbrella and sun lounger
hire is very cheap). They are never crowded with people. Parking is easy
and the people are friendly. This part of the coast going south leads in to Calabria where the beaches tend to be more stoney. Going in the other direction towards Puglia there are some sandy beaches with pure white sand that are stunning.
The summer temperatures can be quite high and we have a beautiful National Park called Parco Pollino very close by. It is heavily wooded and
it makes a glorious change to walk in the cool dappled shade after a few days
roasting on the beach. Depending on the season you can also buy freshly
picked wild mushrooms.
